Suspected Fake Lawyer Arrested in Kitengela Over Sh82,000 Fraud
A 36-year-old woman suspected of masquerading as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya has been arrested by detectives from Kitengela Police Station following allegations of fraud amounting to Sh82,000.
The suspect, identified as Maureen Auma Andary, was apprehended today at Chuna Mall in Kitengela. Acting on intelligence reports, detectives cornered Andary, who is accused of posing as a qualified advocate to carry out fraudulent transactions.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect had been passing herself off as a legal practitioner, allegedly claiming to work with Wafula & Co. Advocates in Kitengela.
The investigation started on September 11, 2026, when the matter was reported after suspicions arose regarding her activities. Detectives established that she allegedly obtained Sh82,000 from a client by falsely representing that she would file applications in connection with a matter pending before the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
The suspect is currently in custody as detectives widen their investigations to determine if other unsuspecting members of the public may have fallen victim to the alleged scheme.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a caution to the public, urging citizens to verify the credentials and professional affiliations of persons offering legal or other professional services before entrusting them with money or personal documents.
