FANCY FINGERS LANDS MAJOR SCORING GIG FOR INTERNATIONAL FILM
Popular guitarist and music producer Polycarp Otieno also known as Fancy Fingers, has composed the original film score for a film set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
In an exclusive interview on the Buzz Central Podcast with Cheptoek Boyo, the multi-talented musician revealed his passion for film scoring and the creative process behind this project. “I just came off doing one of my biggest scoring gigs at the moment,” Otieno shared. “It’s a documentary that’s going to be featured at the Toronto Film Festival the biggest film festival in the world. I’ve always wanted to score for film because I’m a very good arranger and musician. I love to bring emotions out and fuse them with picture.”
The guitarist described his lifelong fascination with cinematic music, “When I watch movies, half the time I’m analyzing how they’ve fused music with scenes, why certain music was chosen and how it brings out emotions. Music is everything. It’s the soundtrack of our lives. Whether you’re working out, walking, running, or even crying music is always there.”
Collaborating with fellow musician Winyo Shipton, he revealed their meticulous approach, “The filmmakers sent us temporary music to establish the mood and feel they wanted. Then we created everything from scratch. I watched the film six times to fully immerse myself in its emotion so when composing, I could authentically translate that feeling into music.”
