GOVERNMENT PATHOLOGIST WITHDRAWS FROM CONDUCTING ALBERT OJWANG’S AUTOPSY
Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor has recused himself from performing the autopsy on Albert Ojwang’, which was initially scheduled for Monday afternoon.
The procedure, originally set for 10 a.m., was postponed to accommodate Oduor’s arrival before his withdrawal. Oduor stepped aside due to a familial connection with the deceased, as Ojwang’ was reportedly part of his extended family.
Despite his withdrawal, he remains part of the medical team overseeing the post-mortem but will not take a hands-on role.
Before the autopsy, Julius Juma, the family’s lawyer, stated that the cause of Ojwang’s death remained unclear, necessitating an official pathologist’s report. While the exact cause of death has not been disclosed, Juma who earlier examined the body noted fatal head injuries, along with secondary wounds on the hands and shoulders.
Representatives from human rights organisations, including Amnesty International, the Law Society of Kenya, and the Defenders’ Coalition, were present at the City Mortuary. These groups have vowed to push for full transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death.
