THIS IS DIGITAL KICKS OFF AI LITERACY PROGRAM 

This is Digital, a company dedicated to closing the AI literacy gap in Africa, successfully hosted The Age of AI: A Reality Check breakfast event in celebration of International Artificial Intelligence Appreciation Day, held at The Social House. The event brought together thought leaders, innovators, and professionals to reflect on AI’s impact across industries and society.

The event featured a keynote address by Moses Kemibaro, Founder and CEO of Dotsavvy, who spoke about the urgency of AI adoption in Africa’s digital transformation. Other speakers included Susan Makau of International School of Advertisingand Ikran Abdirahman a DIFA Consultancy, who explored AI’s role in marketing and business strategy.

A panel discussion included industry experts Eugene Mbugua (D&R Studios), Caroline Kendi (CK Marketing), Dr. Catherine Gathu (Aga Khan University), and Jesse Kamau (Safaricom PLC) delved into AI’s real-world applications in media, healthcare, marketing, and telecommunications. Key takeaways included: The need for localised AI solutions to address Africa’s unique challenges. Ethical AI development and policy frameworks to guide adoption. Upskilling professionals and entrepreneurs to harness AI’s potential.

Following the event, This is Digital announced its AI Literacy Program, set to begin on August 5, 2025. The program includes: Online AI Bootcamp (Tuesdays, August 5–26, 7:00 PM–9:00 PM). In-Person AI Bootcamp (August 27–29).

Monthly cohorts will equip professionals, students, and entrepreneurs with foundational AI knowledge, ensuring Africa remains competitive in the global AI landscape.

Kenya ranks 6th in Africa for AI readiness according to Oxford Insights AI Readiness Index 2024, yet a significant literacy gap persists.
