SAFARICOM 5G: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR SETUP

Published

on

Safaricom launched its 5G Wi-Fi service in October 2022 marking a new era for home internet in Kenya. Thinking about upgrading your home Wi-Fi? We’ve cut through the tech jargon and get straight to how it works.

1. What is 5G Wi-Fi?
Safaricom’s 5G Wi-Fi is the next evolution of home internet, offering high-speed and reliable connectivity on the country’s first 5G network. It is designed to deliver a superior online experience for streaming, gaming, remote work, and connecting multiple devices at home.

2. How to Get Connected
Getting started is simple. You can sign up for the service by dialing *400*4# or by visiting any Safaricom shop, dealer, or selected Masoko or Quickmart supermarket branches across the country.

3. Router Cost and Models
The 5G router is available for a one-time cost of Ksh2,999. Customers can choose from different models to suit their needs, including:

  • Baicells EG3065M (with an inbuilt battery)
  • Huawei H155-382 Indoor Model

4. Flexible Monthly Speed Plans
Safaricom offers a range of monthly plans to cater to different needs and budgets:

  • Ksh 2,999 for 15Mbps for 30 Days
  • Ksh 4,000 for 50Mbps for 30 Days
  • Ksh 5,000 for 100Mbps for 30 Days
  • Ksh 10,000 for 250Mbps for 30 Days

5. Key Things to Know About the Service

  • Speed Guarantee: Speeds are provided on a “best effort” basis and are not guaranteed. Your actual speed will depend on factors like your specific location, and download speeds are typically faster than upload speeds.
  • Plan Validity & Rollover: All 5G Wi-Fi packages are valid for 30 days. Any unused data expires after this period.
  • Changing Your Plan: You can upgrade or downgrade your speed plan at any time. By paying for a new plan, your speed will change, and any unused data from your previous plan will be rolled over as long as the previous plan is still within its 30-day validity period.
  • Coverage: The 5G router is designed for seamless connectivity. If you are in an area without 5G coverage, the router will automatically switch to the best available 4G network to keep you connected.
