17 YEARS: ABEL MUTUA & JUDY NYAWIRA REFLECT ON VALUES THAT HAVE KEPT THEM TOGETHER

Kenyan filmmaker Abel Mutua and his wife, Judy Nyawira, are marking a remarkable 17 years of marriage. 

In a candid reflection on their union, the couple opened up about the values that have sustained their relationship, speaking on what has been the bedrock of their marriage, “The thing that keeps you together is the friendship. I can’t lie, I got a ride-or-die woman,” he stated.

He delved into the pressures facing modern relationships, observing, “I feel like right now men are judged by what they can bring to the table. Women stopped judging on potential like in my wife’s time.” 

He also talked about his decision to forge his own path, saying, “I don’t let my upbringing dictate how I do things now. Everything I had in the guise of culture or ‘this is how our family operates.‘”

Nyawira shared her sentiment of a partnership built from the ground up. “When I look at you I see the journey that we have been on and possibilities of life because we started at zero.” Adding, “We were both students and everything we have achieved we have done it together.“
