Atwoli’s Son Lukoye Mourns Wife Maureen Nyadida Following Cancer Battle

Professor Lukoye Atwoli, the son of COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, is in mourning following the death of his beloved wife, Maureen Nyadida-Lukoye. She passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Professor Atwoli announced the heartbreaking news in a brief but devastating Facebook post “I will struggle to deal with this. So long, my dear. So long,” he wrote .

Maureen and Lukoye had been married for 21 years, having celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary in April 2022. The couple’s love story began in 2001 when they met at a friend’s wedding in Nakuru, Maureen was part of the bridal team while Lukoye was involved on the groom’s side. Together, they built a family blessed with four sons: Anyanje, Alubala, Yimbo and Atwoli Jr.

Friends and colleagues have rallied around Professor Atwoli during this difficult time. Kenya Medical Association President Dr. Simon Kigondu visited Lukoye at Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday to offer his condolences in person. “Condoling with Prof. Lukoye W’Atwoli on the loss of his dear wife, Maureen Nyadida.
