Spanish Woman Melinda Lucy Speaks Out After Losing KSh 30 Million to Kenyan Ex-Boyfriend in Land Scam
A Spanish national identified as Melinda Lucy has shared her harrowing experience of losing KSh 30 million to her Kenyan ex-boyfriend, whom she accuses of defrauding her under the guise of a land investment.
Speaking in a detailed video posted on TikTok, Melinda recounted how she met the man in Nairobi, describing him as “charming, God-fearing, and well-spoken.” She believed she had found a life partner. However, she now questions whether his affection was genuine or a calculated scheme to finance his dream of relocating abroad.
The relationship appeared normal at first, flowers, talks of a future, and promises of building together. By month six, the man began pitching business ideas, urging her to invest her savings. “He said, ‘Babe, you are smart, but you keep your money in the bank sleeping. Let me show you how we do business here,’” Melinda recalled.

What followed was a systematic build-up of trust. Small investments of KSh 500,000 and KSh 2 million were returned with profits. He presented documents, claimed government connections, and maintained an active M-Pesa Till. Everything seemed legitimate.
The scam culminated in a supposed deal to purchase five acres in Kajiado for KSh 30 million, with a promised return of KSh 45 million within 60 days. Melinda sent the full amount. The following day, his phone went silent. Excuses about meetings in Mombasa and a delaying seller gave way to read messages with no replies.
On the seventh day, she visited the land only to be told by the owner that it was not for sale and that he did not know the man. “Thirty million shillings. Gone,” she said.
Melinda has since reported the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and engaged a lawyer.
She notes that the lost funds had been supporting children through a foundation started by her mother, who now have nothing to eat. She hopes her story will serve as a warning to others. The Kenyan man is yet to respond to the allegations.
