I HAVE NEVER FELT SAFE OR PROTECTED BY AFRICAN MEN-VICTORIA KIMANI

By  |

Outspoken Kenyan musician Victoria Kimani, took to Twitter to issue some fiery words.

In a series of tweets Kimani says she hasn’t felt safe as an African woman, “I can’t lie … have I ever felt safe or protected by African men? Nope. African men reduce their women constantly. Break them down to a size that serves them only.”

Victoria continued her sentiments by pointing out the culture’s long-standing issue with abuse and lack of support, “African women are not your punching bag…not your sex toy, not your ego boosters, not your servant and certainly, not your enemy. They don’t even want you to own your own thoughts much less own your voice.”

Adding, “Being an African woman in Africa is fucking torture, it is a traumatizing experience. It sucks. We are undervalued, underpaid, under-appreciated, and simply under the radar. I hate it here from the bottom of my heart.”
