DJ PINYE REFLECTS ON HAVING ANGER ISSUES AND UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS WITH WOMEN
14 years since the passing of his mother, DJ Pinye has opened up about the strained relationship he had with his mother and the impact her death has had on his life. “14 years ago today, I lost my mum. Reflecting on this brings sorrow, but I’m also struck by how much I’ve changed over the years—& much of that change was influenced by her. Mum had a quiet sadness to her; I can barely remember her smiling.”
DJ Pinye recalled how his youth was full of conflict and rebellion, labelling himself the ‘black sheep’ of the family. “I was the ‘bad apple’—rebellious, angry and hot tempered. The family black sheep, and my relationship with her was fraught with conflict. Every interaction felt like a boxing match. In one of my fits of rage,Every interaction felt like a boxing match,” he shared.
Admitting that his anger and troubled relationships, including an attempt to set the family house on fire, stemmed from his challenging relationship with his mother. “I tried to set the house on fire (a long story).”
It wasn’t until he sought help through an intervention that he began to address his unresolved issues, eventually finding a way to mend their relationship before her untimely death. “Thanks to the intervention of a forum, which completely transformed me, I began to see that my issues—including anger and unhealthy relationships with women—stemmed from my strained relationship with Mum. I used the tools I learned there to work on my brokenness, & part of that journey involved mending my relationship with her. It took time & patience, but eventually, we became close.”
