TREE OF LIFE MURAL CELEBRATING KENYAN ACTIVIST ELIZABETH WATHUTI UNVEILED IN ESTONIA
A vibrant new mural titled Tree of Life was unveiled on April 8th in Narva, Estonia, honouring Kenyan climate activist Elizabeth Wathuti and her tireless environmental advocacy.
The breathtaking artwork, created by Viktoria Berezina, merges Ukrainian folk art with Kenya’s rich biodiversity, symbolising the deep connection between humanity and nature.
Commissioned by Mondo organisation as part of the I share her power project, the mural celebrates Wathuti’s Green Generation Initiative, which has planted over 30,000 trees in Kenya. Inspired by her words ‘The forest is part of me’ the artwork serves as a visual manifesto for ecological preservation and global solidarity.

“My inspiration was the amazing Elizabeth Wathuti – Liz Mazingira, @lizwathuti a young woman making a real difference in the world. Through her Green Generation Initiative, over 30,000 trees have been planted in Kenya! Her words “The forest is part of me” became the heart of my idea for this mural,” said the artist.
Spanning four walls, the mural blends traditional Ukrainian Petrykivka painting with the lush landscapes of Kenya. At its heart stands the Tree of Life, surrounded by: Wildlife: A lion, cheetah, and mythical creatures. Floral motifs: Indigenous Kenyan blooms and birds and A portrait of Elizabeth Wathuti, embodying hope and activism
The project brought together volunteers, local supporters, and international admirers, including photographer Dmitri Fedotkin, who captured the unveiling. Special thanks were extended to Maria, Liza, and Tanya for their dedication, as well as to Mondo Estonia for fostering cross-cultural dialogue through art.
