‘INDISCIPLINE’ MAJI MAJI ON WHY AUSTIN ODHIAMBO WAS REMOVED FROM HARAMBEE STARS SQUAD

The exclusion of Austin Odhiambo, one of the standout performers for the Harambee Stars during the recent CHAN 2024 tournament, from the national team’s 23-man squad has sparked speculation among football enthusiasts.

Odhiambo was noticeably absent from the lineup announced by head coach Benni McCarthy on Wednesday, August 27. The squad is set to compete in the upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Seychelles and Gambia in September.

While the official reason for his omission has not been disclosed, rumours have emerged suggesting disciplinary issues may be behind the decision. Julius Owino, popularly known as Maji Maji, Managing Director and presenter at Ghetto Radio, addressed these rumours during his show. 

“There are rumours that he was omitted from the squad because of a disciplinary case. He reported to the camp a day later. People say he had gone partying and also refused to warm up for the game before Zambia,” stated Maji Maji. 

He further advised, “Austin scored two goals when we needed it and while under pressure. You can discipline him but let him be part of the squad just in case you need him.”
