Veteran Kenyan musician Nyota Ndogo has opened up about a piece of advice from her late father that has guided her life and career.

In a social media post, the artiste recounted the warning her father gave her about the music industry. “My late father left me with one word that hits me every day,” she shared. “He told me, my child, music is the devil, if you forget yourself, you will die poor.”

He told her to always plan ahead, “He said my generation will come after them in the arts and I should not forget myself because other people will come after us. I should prepare for the future today because time goes by and doesn’t go back.”

She heeded his words, focusing on building a sustainable future rather than focusing on musical career, “And yes, I didn’t play with my chance and I have nothing to regret,” she stated. “Where my dad is right now I know he is proud and says that’s my daughter. I am not rich but I am not where I was, I have made progress, I can say alhamdulillah (praise be to God).”
