DIAMOND PLATNUMZ DELETES PRO-GOVERNMENT POSTS AMID TANZANIA’S POLITICAL UNREST

Published

Celebrated Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz has deleted all recent posts from his social media accounts that featured his involvement with President Samia Suluhu Hassan

His Instagram profile, a primary platform for his public engagements, saw the removal of videos showcasing his performances at the President’s campaign rallies and official CCM functions.

This digital purge coincides with the social unrest and growing anti-government demonstrations within Tanzania. The protests have been fuelled by allegations of a government crackdown on political opposition, which critics say includes the arrest of figures, forced disappearances, and the creation of legal obstacles designed to limit competitive politics in the lead-up to the election.

The artist’s very public alignment with the incumbent government had recently drawn backlash from segments of his fanbase and the public. The decision to remove the content follows this wave of criticism directed at his endorsements.

Concurrently, the nation has been placed under a state of heightened tension.
