MUSICIAN SUZANNA OWIYO URGES KENYAN WOMEN TO EMBRACE NATURAL BODIES

Published

Musician Suzanna Owiyo has called on young women to embrace their natural bodies and resist mounting societal pressure to undergo cosmetic surgeries

Her statement comes amidst a noticeable surge in Kenyan female celebrities publicly opting for surgical procedures. Under a #throwbackwednesday post, Owiyo directed her message to the youth, asking, “Young beautiful ladies, hiyo pressure ya ku enhance makalio imetoka wapi? Si uridhike tu na chenye ulibarikiwa nacho!!” (Young beautiful ladies, where is this pressure to enhance your hips coming from? Why not just be content with what you have been blessed with!!).

Her comment shines a light on cultural shift in Kenya, where procedures such as Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs), breast augmentations, tummy tucks and lip fillers are becoming increasingly visible. In the past month alone, high-profile personalities including Vera Sidika, Pritty Vishi, Gloria Ntazola, Lydia Wanjiru and Naomi Kuria have shared their own journeys with cosmetic surgery.
