Kenyan gospel musician Jimmy Gait is recovering from serious injuries after being attacked by a gang in the Runda area of Nairobi.

Speaking online the gospel star described the terrifying ordeal, during which he was violently assaulted, robbed, and nearly lost his thumb after it was almost severed by his attackers.

According to Gait, the incident occurred recently in the upscale neighbourhood, where he was confronted by a group of armed criminals. The attack left him with deep cuts on his hands and severe injuries to his neck. “I was scratched all over my neck. I was choked so hard I felt like I was going to die,” the musician recounted. “My fingers had cuts. I used all of my strength to survive.”

The singer explained that the gang proceeded to rob him after overpowering him. They accessed his phone and forced him to disclose his PIN codes, subsequently transferring money to themselves. “One of them removed the phone from my pocket. I didn’t want to look at them because I was told that when they realise you know them, they might kill you,” he said. “I begged them to take everything but not kill me. They asked for the PIN for my two phone numbers and sent themselves money.

In his moment of anguish, the artist turned to his faith. “While they were still beating me, I prayed to God to forgive my sins,” he shared. Jimmy Gait is currently receiving medical treatment and is under observation.
