SABASTIAN SAWE AWARDED SH8 MILLION, CUSTOMISED NUMBER PLATE
World record holder Sabastian Sawe has been awarded KSh 8 million and a customised number plate featuring the time of his historic run, following his monumental achievement at the London Marathon on April 26, 2026.
The Kenyan runner made history by setting a marathon world record of 1:59:30 at the London Marathon, becoming the first athlete ever to break the two-hour barrier in an official race a feat once considered impossible by sports scientists and athletics enthusiasts alike.
Upon his return home, Kenya Airways celebrated Sawe’s triumphant homecoming with a ceremonial water salute at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). “Carrying Kenya’s pride home. As the national carrier, we are honoured to bring home world record holder Sabastian Sawe, marking a moment of national pride. Welcomed with a water salute at JKIA, a fitting tribute to an extraordinary achievement.”
In addition to the aviation honours, Sawe received a cash award of KSh 8 million in recognition of his record-breaking performance. He was also presented with a customised number plate bearing the time of his world record 1:59:30 a permanent tribute to a moment that will forever be etched in athletics history.
