‘Hysterectomy Does Not Cure Endometriosis’ Warns Gynaecological Surgeon Dr. Joe Njagi

Gynaecological surgeon and endometriosis specialist Dr. Joe Njagi is raising awareness about a misconception surrounding the treatment of endometriosis, warning patients against undergoing unnecessary hysterectomies.

In a recent video posted on his TikTok platform, Dr. Njagi addressed a troubling trend where patients are incorrectly told that removing the uterus will cure their endometriosis. He described the practice as both medically misleading and potentially harmful to patients.

In the video, Dr. Njagi said, “Now this is horrible where patients are told that have a hysterectomy or removal of the uterus to cure endometriosis. We know this is a horrible myth. Can you imagine losing an organ, which is not going to treat your condition? So, the next time you’re given that as an option for endometriosis, say no.”

He captioned the video: “Busting the myth: Hysterectomy does NOT cure endometriosis! Let’s spread awareness about this condition and the real options for managing.”

Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, often causing severe pain, infertility, and reduced quality of life. Medical experts note that because endometriosis lesions can exist on the ovaries, bowel, bladder and other pelvic structures, removal of the uterus alone does not address the root problem.
