Vera Sidika Counts Losses After 55-Hour KQ Delay Ruins Mauritius Vacation
Socialite Vera Sidika has describes as her “worst experience” with Kenya Airways (KQ), revealing a 55-hour travel ordeal that caused her to miss a fully paid Mauritius vacation and lose thousands on non-refundable bookings, all while flying Business Class.
In a series of social media posts about the national carrier’s service standards, Sidika recounted a nightmare journey that began on August 4, 2026, when she arrived at the airport for a scheduled flight back to Kenya. “4th August I was supposed to fly back to Kenya & land on 5th at 6am. Knowing so well I have another flight on 5th August at 9pm to Mauritius,” Sidika wrote.
The reality TV star and businesswoman, who claims she paid in full for two Business Class tickets in less than a week, arrived at the check-in counter only to be informed that her flight to Nairobi had been cancelled. She received no prior communication from the airline. “I get to the airport only to be told that the flight to Nairobi have been cancelled!! Like I had to find out at the check in counter. No prior communication, nothing,” she lamented.
What followed was a frustrating 48-hour ordeal marked by zero communication from Kenya Airways. Sidika alleged that a supervisor who provided his number refused to answer her calls throughout the entire day of August 5. “Next day, Whole day no communication. The supervisor who gave me his number refused to pick my calls the entire day I swear to God I was crashing out!!!” she wrote.
With no updates via email or phone, Sidika was forced to physically return to the airport multiple times to seek information. When she finally learned that the flight might depart at 8 pm on August 6, she headed back to the airport, only to discover that the flight left at 1 am instead .
The final blow: the 55-hour delay meant she had already missed her connecting KQ flight to Mauritius, effectively ending her vacation before it began. “At this point my Mauritius vacation trip is already over can’t go,” she wrote, adding that non-refundable hotel bookings added to her financial losses .
Sidika, who claims to have flown with KQ for years without speaking publicly about past issues, used her platform to call on fellow Kenyans to share their experiences and hold the airline accountable. “Kenyans are tired. We have been bottling up issues with KQ for long. And as passengers we are never heard,” she declared. “And we are paying clients imagine. Not those influencers on free flights.”
Sidika also took aim at influencers who, she claimed, attack paying passengers who raise legitimate complaints. “Kenya Airways if you pay your influencers to attack your Business class paying passengers in the name of Kujitetea then no wonder. Birds of a feather! Instead of listening to complains she’s attacking paying clients,” she stated.
