EACC Arrest Two Judiciary Employees in Separate Bribery Cases

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two court staff members in Eldoret and Nakuru in unrelated incidents involving the solicitation and acceptance of bribes in exchange for judicial services.

In Eldoret, the anti-graft agency arrested Ms. Linet Okungu, a Court Assistant attached to a Magistrate’s Court, on allegations of demanding and receiving a bribe.

The suspect was taken into custody on September 8, 2026, after she reportedly accepted KSh20,000. The money was said to be part of a larger bribe sought to secure a stay order halting the auction of a parcel of land in a case pending before the court.

The operation was triggered by a complaint from a court user who claimed that a Magistrate had demanded KSh50,000 to issue the said stay order. Following her arrest, Okungu was booked at Eldoret Police Station and later freed on a cash bail of KSh20,000 as investigations continue.

In a separate operation in Nakuru, EACC officers arrested Mr. Benard Ngeno, a court process server attached to the Nakuru Law Courts Civil Registry. He is accused of soliciting and accepting a bribe to assign a favourable mention date for a complainant’s case.

Ngeno was taken to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing and subsequently released on a cash bail of KSh5,000 pending the conclusion of investigations.

EACC has reiterated its commitment to improving the quality of services offered to citizens by cracking down on officials who misuse their positions for personal gain.

The Commission continues to urge members of the public to report any incidents of bribery or corruption at government institutions.
