Kenyan Woman Confronts Kenya Power Over Shocking KSh 200,000 Bill

A Kenyan mother is demanding answers from Kenya Power after a faulty meter replacement resulted in a staggering KSh 200,000 electricity bill, despite her household’s average monthly usage never exceeding KSh 300.

The customer, who spoke out while at a Kenya Power office seeking resolution, says the ordeal began two years ago when she first reported a faulty meter. She claims the utility took two years to replace the device and now she is being charged the massive sum, which Kenya Power attributes to the faulty meter.

“I’m in Kenya Power and I have come here because I have been given a bill of Sh200,000 and I live in a house where my limit is Sh300,” she said. “They have told me the bill is because of a faulty meter, yet I complained and they took too long before they changed that faulty meter. Now they are charging me 200,000, how fair is that?”

The mother says she diligently paid her monthly bills of approximately KSh 300 throughout the period, even as the faulty meter remained unresolved. She argues the delay in replacing the meter was entirely Kenya Power’s responsibility, and she should not be forced to shoulder the consequences. “These people don’t care. They took two years to change my meter,” she said.

The video has since gone viral on social media.
