GOSPEL SINGER RACHEL WANDETO DIES AFTER PETROL ATTACK
Rachel Wandeto, a Kenyan gospel artist who was recently targeted by unidentified assailants, has lost her battle with severe burns.
The singer had been receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital after attackers doused her with fuel and ignited the liquid in the Mwiki area. She passed away on the morning of Monday, May 18, according to multiple reports.
Musician Karangu Muraya broke the news of her death, noting that she had urgently required blood due to the severity of her burns. “A great soul has departed… Rest in peace, Rachel Wandeto,” he wrote.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the attack occurred just days after Wandeto publicly declared support for President William Ruto’s 2027 reelection campaign, including getting a tattoo in his honour.
The case drew a visit from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Sunday, the day before she died. “I condemn this barbaric act that has no place in our society. Our investigative agencies are working hard to establish the motive and bring to book the perpetrators of the heinous act,” Murkomen said.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that investigators have launched a full probe. He directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to act swiftly to uncover what happened and why. “Investigations are already in motion. The DCI has been instructed to work quickly so that all responsible parties are brought before the courts,” Kanja stated.
