ACTIVIST HANIFA RELEASES AUDITED REPORT FOR SH31 MILLION CONTRIBUTED DURING GEN Z PROTEST

By  |

Kenyan activist Hanifa has released the audited report on the M-Changa contributions raised by Kenyans and well-wishers to cover the hospital bills of those injured during the Gen Z protests

The fund, which was launched two months ago under the name ‘Care for the Injured’, successfully raised a total of Sh31 million surpassing the initial target of Sh10 million. “I would like to begin this by showing my utmost gratitude to the Mchanga team. This would not have been possible without them. They had no obligation whatsoever to do what they did but they did it.

I handled zero cash, all the money was with mchanga in their ecobank account which was used for all payments. I surrendered all the money to them. They have been extremely professional and did this with perfection. I know it was hard for them too and I cannot find words to thank them wallah. I’m in awe! Asanteni sana! It was a long journey!

The report highlights that the contributions were used to cover hospital bills for 208 beneficiaries across Kenya. Among them were 62 individuals who lost their lives, and 146 who sustained injuriesHanifa shared that she covered additional expenses personally, ensuring no one was left without assistance. “I want everyone to understand how important this was. So many people could’ve been stranded wallah. The bills were a lot and the injuries were serious and deep. Special thanks to KNH for waiving the bills for our comrades! Thank you so much! I believe I did everything to ensure that no one was stranded and left behind. Whether in hospital, the morgue or with the burial expenses. No one.”

Hanifa reflected on the emotional toll the process took on her. “Handling this was a test. I witnessed police brutality firsthand in hospitals, funerals, and morgues. Each day grew more difficult. Although most have moved on, I remain deeply affected by what I saw. I have not returned to work since, as the trauma is still fresh.”

She added, “So many people could have been stranded, facing insurmountable hospital bills and burial expenses. I believe we did everything we could to ensure no one was left behind.” She expressed her gratitude to all contributors and supporters: “Thank you for everything. May you never lack, and may the universe be kind to you. I am overwhelmed with gratitude.”
