‘THE CAR OVERTURNED SEVEN TIMES’ NAMELESS REFLECTS ON LAST MOMENTS WITH E-SIR
March 16, 2025, marks 22 years since the tragic passing of Kenyan music legend E-Sir, and his close friend and fellow artist, Nameless, has shared a tribute reflecting on their final moments together.
In an emotional post, Nameless recounted the harrowing details of the car accident that claimed E-Sir’s life and the life of their friend Kevin, while also celebrating their legacy and the lessons learned from that fateful day. “Today marks 22 years since I lost a dear friend, a legend, and an icon E-Sir. That day remains the hardest of my life,” Nameless wrote.
He vividly described the terrifying moments of the accident, which occurred after a successful concert in Nakuru. The car lost control and overturned multiple times, leaving Nameless fighting for his life.“I still remember the terror as the car lost control and overturned—once, twice, seven times. With each violent spin, I fought for my life, screaming, refusing to believe that this could be the end. When the car finally came to a stop, I gasped, realising I was still alive. A wave of relief washed over me but it was short-lived.”
When the car finally stopped, he realised E-Sir had been thrown from the vehicle and died instantly from the impact. Kevin, another friend in the car, succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. “I turned to check on everyone. Santos and Shaddy had minor injuries. Kevin was unconscious. And Esir… he was nowhere to be found. I found out later he had been thrown from the car, and the impact had taken his life instantly, this was too painful to bear. Kevin, a new friend, also passed away on the way to the hospital.”
“Losing E-Sir and Kevin that day showed me the brutal reality of life and death,” Nameless shared. “One moment, we were celebrating a successful concert, dreaming about the future. Next, everything had changed. Death does not ask for permission. It comes without warning.”
Despite the pain of the loss, Nameless shared the importance of celebrating life and living it to the fullest. He encouraged fans to honour E-Sir’s memory by embodying his values of humility, hard work, and passion, and by using their talents to make a positive impact. “Today is not just about mourning. It is about celebrating life E-Sir’s, Kevin’s, and our own,” he said. “If there’s one lesson that day taught me, it’s that every breath is a gift. Live fully. Love deeply. Be grateful for the gift of life. Make it worthwhile.”
Nameless also urged fans to keep E-Sir’s spirit alive through his music and shared memories. He invited fans to share their favourite E-Sir songs or memories in the comments of his post.
E-Sir, born Issah Mmari, remains one of Kenya’s most beloved music icons, known for hits like Boomba Train, Namba Nane, and Moss Moss. His untimely death in 2003 left a void in the Kenyan music industry, but his influence continues to inspire generations of artists and fans.
