KITALE FILM WEEK APPOINTS PETER MUDAMBA AS FESTIVAL DIRECTOR
Kitale Film Week, East Africa’s rising cultural showcase, has named acclaimed documentary filmmaker and curator Peter Mudamba (Mudamba Mudamba) as its new Festival Director for the 2026 and 2027 editions.
With over ten years of experience in film programming and institutional leadership – including his current role as Programme Director at Docubox, Mudamba has been instrumental in Kitale Film Week’s evolution since its 2023 debut. His contributions include programming guidance, filmmaker mentorship, and strategic support that helped transform the event from a local initiative into a nationally recognised festival.

Founded in May 2022 by Peter Pages Bwire, the Trans Nzoia-based festival has become a cornerstone of independent African cinema, attracting thousands to its eight-day lineup of over ninety films screened across schools, community spaces, and outdoor venues.
“We are entering a critical phase where Kitale Film Week must do more than screen films, we must shape audiences,” said Mudamba. “Our goal is to cultivate a discerning, critical film public that values authentic, thought-provoking storytelling… We believe film is the most powerful medium to confront themes like freedom of expression and climate justice.”
Mudamba will helm the 2026 edition (26 February – 1 March), focusing on community-driven initiatives such as short film grants, filmmaker labs, and training for emerging film critics. The Kitale Film Week board stated, “We are delighted to have someone who knows the festival from the inside and has shaped its growth. Mr. Mudamba brings continuity, passion, and proven leadership.”
