17 KCSE CANDIDATES IN MARSABIT CAUGHT WITH PHONES DURING EXAMS
Marsabit County has recorded two separate incidents of exam malpractice, with 17 students sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams caught in possession of mobile phones.
The incidents occurred in the Moyale and Saku constituencies. According to authorities, nine students were discovered with the prohibited devices at Sessi Mixed Secondary School in Moyale. In a separate case within Saku constituency, eight private candidates were also nabbed. Marsabit Central Assistant County Commissioner David Saruni confirmed the reports stating that official investigations into the matter are now underway.
KNEC officials supervising the exams noticed the unauthorised devices and instructed the candidates to hand them over. Following the confiscation, the nine students at Sessi Mixed Secondary were permitted to complete their Chemistry Paper One exam. The recovered phones have since been submitted to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for analysis. The case has been escalated to involve senior education and security officials in the sub-county.
A total of 4,126 candidates are undertaking the KCSE examination across 51 centres in Marsabit County.
