WORLDCOIN DELETES BIOMETRIC DATA COLLECTED FROM KENYANS
Worldcoin, crypto company, has now deleted all the eye scan information it collected from Kenya.
This is after a Kenyan court ruled in May 2025 that the company’s collection of personal data was illegal. The court ordered Worldcoin to delete it forever. The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) confirmed that the company followed the court’s order.
Worldcoin’s work was stopped in Kenya in 2023. The company had been paying people about 50 US Dollars to scan their eyes with a special ball-shaped device called an “Orb.” This scan was used to give them a digital ID and some free digital money.
The concerns were heightened by Kenyans and government officials. They questioned whether it was safe for a company to collect such sensitive body information. The government stopped all of Worldcoin’s activities in the country.
