SAMMY KIOKO LEAKS M-PESA MESSAGE AFTER RECEIVING SH20,000 FROM MACHAKOS COUNTY
Popular Kenyan comedian and businessman Sammy Kioko has accused Machakos County officials of manipulation and intimidation, claiming that out of Ksh 19 million owed to his company, the only payment received to date is Ksh 20,000 sent via M-Pesa by the County Chief Finance Officer.
Kioko, who has been staging a daily peaceful protest outside the County Government offices alongside his sister, revealed that the payment was delivered under what he describes as humiliating circumstances.
“Out of Ksh 19 million, the only money that we have received is Ksh 20,000 through M-Pesa from the Chief Finance Officer of Machakos County,” Kioko stated. “This is the highest level of manipulation and intimidation that we have ever received from Machakos County.”

According to Kioko, the minimal payment was accompanied by a statement from the official, “Juu mumelia sana, wacha tuwatumie kitu mkakule kwanza tukifikiria kama tutawalipa”
The dispute stems from a contract awarded to Kioko’s business to supply staff uniforms for the Machakos County administration under Governor Wavinya Ndeti. Kioko maintains that his company fully delivered the ordered goods and submitted all necessary invoices, yet has waited over a year without receiving payment despite persistent follow-ups.
The prolonged non-payment has reportedly crippled Kioko’s fashion enterprise and pushed him into significant debt. Driven to desperation, Kioko recently made a appeal to President William Samoei Ruto, seeking intervention to unlock the funds owed to him. In a video message directed to the President, Kioko detailed the severe personal and financial toll of the unpaid debt.
“Mr. President, my name is Sammy Kioko, a creative and a businessman. Today I feel discouraged, suffocated, and ignored,” Kioko stated. “We supplied everything and invoiced. We have been following our payments, but everything has become unfruitful… I’m tired of borrowing debt upon debts. We don’t know what to do.”
He further pleaded, “This is my humble request; we beg you to help us even through any public office that can come and listen to us… our businesses and our families depend on us.”
