Geoffrey Mosiria Calls for Immediate Ban of Summer Tides Festival Over Ratchet Videos
Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has called for the ban of the annual Summer Tides Festival, citing dozens of viral videos from the just-concluded event that he says depict lewd behaviour and a dangerous erosion of moral values among the youth.
Reacting to the footage circulating on social media, Mosiria expressed outrage at what he described as “unprotected s*x openly” and “dancing naked” in public spaces, behaviour he argued is unacceptable.
“Summer Tides should be banned so we protect a generation. How do you engage in unprotected s*x openly and dancing naked even whites don’t dance naked like we are doing it, we are overdoing it,” Mosiria stated. “It is painfully for parents struggling and sacrificing for their child to get educated, they have even sold land for the child to be educated. Then you see a video of your child in Malindi at Summer Tides with a man in a car having s*x and the videos are on social media.”
The three-day beach festival, held at Lost Beach Club in Malindi from July 2–4, is dubbed “Africa’s premier beach event” and attracted thousands of revellers from across the country, with many turning their SGR train journeys into lively party spaces as they travelled to the coast. The 2026 edition featured performances from artistes and influencers.
