Veteran Sports Journalist Paul ‘Diblo’ Kaberia is Dead

Kenya has lost one of its most iconic football broadcasting voices. Veteran sports journalist and long-time Radio Jambo commentator Paul Kaberia, popularly known as “Diblo,” passed away early Sunday morning in Nairobi.

Kaberia died while receiving treatment at Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital following a short illness, according to a statement released by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK).

For more than two decades, Kaberia was the unmistakable voice of football on Radio Jambo, earning himself to millions of listeners across the country with his passion of the beautiful game.

Radio Africa Group HR Manager Jemima Ngode, in a statement on Sunday, announced Kaberia’s passing, describing him as a dedicated employee whose voice became a household staple. It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our colleague, Mr. Paul Kaberia, football commentator at Radio Jambo for over 20 years,” Ngode said.

He was widely regarded as one of the most recognisable and respected voices in Kenyan sports broadcasting. Media personality Maina Kageni mourned the loss of his colleague with an emotional tribute. “What a loss 😢. He was talented, passionate and committed… an exciting presenter and commentator. A moment of silence as we mourn the passing of a colleague… just got the news that Diblo Kaberia of Radio Jambo has passed on. My very sincere condolences to friend and family… thank you for everything you did on radio Diblo… tutaonana baadae… Kageni said.
