Kenya Rugby Union Disowns Paul Mugambi, Issues Fraud Alert Over Fake Fundraising Scheme
The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has issued a public alert warning rugby clubs, supporters and well-wishers about an individual fraudulently soliciting funds while falsely claiming to represent the Union.
The Union has identified the individual as Paul Mugambi, who is allegedly approaching rugby clubs, supporters, and well-wishers seeking financial contributions under the pretence of representing or working for the Kenya Rugby Union.
KRU has made it clear that Paul Mugambi is not an employee, representative or authorised agent of the Kenya Rugby Union. The Union stated that any requests for funding, donations, sponsorship, or financial assistance made by this individual on behalf of KRU are fraudulent.
In the interest of public safety, KRU has urged all rugby clubs, partners, sponsors and members of the public to exercise caution and not send money or share sensitive information with anyone claiming to represent KRU without first verifying their identity through the Union’s official communication channels.
Mugambi is reportedly using two mobile phone numbers to contact potential victims.
