The production team behind the feature film Crescent on the Road has officially announced the upcoming premiere of the compelling drama, scheduled for December 5th at Unseen Cinema in Kilimani, Nairobi, starting from 4:00 PM.

Directed by Victor Gatonye and Mohamed Zainudin, the film explores faith, female agency, and economic survival inside Nairobi’s high-octane matatu culture.

Written by Mohamed Zainudin and produced by Shirleen Wangari alongside Zainudin, Crescent on the Road offers an intimate look at a young Muslim woman navigating family duty, financial crisis, and societal expectations on the streets of Eastlands, Nairobi.

When her brother Yusuf passes away unexpectedly, young accountant Amina Hilal is left to deal with his heavily financed matatu, dubbed The Crescent, and an impending foreclosure on her family’s home.

Amina leaves her desk job to operate The Crescent herself. Her decision triggers intense resistance, prejudice, and economic pressure from an industry unused to women at the helm. However, as she hits the daily routes, her persistence earns the respect of her passengers and community, turning her daily struggle into a powerful statement on faith, dignity, and economic self-determination.

“Amina’s journey is not rebellion for its own sake. She is protecting her family, her brother’s legacy, her dignity, and her right to determine her own future,” state co-directors Gatonye and Zainudin. “The matatu becomes a moving world where faith, gender, class, ambition, and survival collide.”

Shot on location across Eastlands, the film utilises documentary-inspired handheld cinematography to reflect the fast-paced, unpredictable pulse of Nairobi’s nganya culture. Dialogue weaves naturally across Coastal Swahili, urban Sheng, English, and generational Swahili with authentic Islamic terminology.

The film features an acclaimed star cast, including Yasmin Said, Mumtaz Dhulfikar, Ken Ambani, Pascal Tokodi, Timothy Musyoki, Mwangi Thuita and Martin Kigondu.
