GINGER INK AND ONE FINE DAY FILMS ACCUSED OF UNDERPAYING KENYAN CREATIVES AS LOW AS SH1500

Top production companies Ginger Ink and One Fine Day Films have been accused of allegedly underpaying Kenyan creatives.

According to Silas Miami a filmmaker the two company pays creatives as low as Sh1500 a day, “Hi, are @GingerInkFilms and @OneFineDayFilms still paying Kenyans Ksh 1500 a day to make films? While still flying in white story experts to ‘teach’ us how to make African films

Are @GingerInkFilms and @OneFineDayFilms still waiting on the team of underpaid and overworked Kenyan creatives to bankroll scenes they don’t deem as being ‘important’ only to see them jet setting with the film when it’s done? So you can get your photo-ops with Lupita in LA?”

Is @GingerInkFilms still threatening Kenyan creatives with, “You’ll never work in this town again,” when they refuse to work in shitty conditions and on shitty terms? Because I’ve got some stories from the folks that worked on Sense 8.” he wrote in a series of tweets.

Silas tweets went viral as actors, scriptwriters, producer, directors, stuntmen among other creatives shared their stories of being underpaid.

Actress and writer Mkamzee Mwatela replied his tweet, “I have joined Twitter for this! There we were just accepting 1500 shillings assuming that the Director at least got the credit he deserved! Lo and behold! You only work on this plantation, you shall never have shares! It may even have been 2000. 500 was for chips.”

Actor and stuntman Derrick Assetto says they were underpaid by Ginger Ink while shooting international series Sense8,  “@GingerInkFilms is rip off they misuse Kenyan artist. shoot @sense8 @Sense8Worldwide the series she ripped us off under paid stunts men and that’s a fact. I did both stunts and acting this woman refused to pay both yet the Germany team in the meeting told her that’s how it should.

She starting lying that in Kenya actors are not paid for that and she started crying in the meeting which she uses as cover up. Emotion blackmail, she is Ginger is slave driver and rips artist and threaten with blacklist if you speak your mind or ask questions. Nonsense.

We were blacklisted just because we queried through the right Chanel our stunts boss. It’s annoying to be an artist in Kenya you expected to shut it and take what you given, It’s always low budget. @sense8 was not a low budget by a long shot. So how do you say it’s a workshop.”

Ginger Ink and One Fine Day Films are yet to address the allegations.
