‘IT WAS HARD TO TELL MUM I COULDN’T SAVE YOU’ E-SIR REMEMBERED 18 YEARS AFTER HIS DEATH

By  |

Today marks 18 years anniversary of E-sir’s untimely death. The singing icon passed away on March 16 2003 at a road accident on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway. He was travelling in the same car with Nameless when the accident happened on their way back to Nairobi from a concert at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru.

Nameless took to social media to pay tribute to his friend, “Went to visit E-sir’s grave with a few close friends and family! Exactly 18 years ago on that fateful Sunday morning after an amazing show in Nakuru as we were driving back to Nairobi for another gig the car lost control and we lost you and Kevin. It still hurts to just remember that moment because it didn’t make sense.

We had had the best show together that night as we started touring together. We knew we were taking over the industry! We could feel it! We knew we were synergized as a team. We knew we were on to something big.

Then just like that you left! It was so hard to go meet your mum and tell her I couldn’t save you! She trusted me as your big brother to always take care of each other in the industry! Still doesn’t make sense but I will always carry your positive vibe in me and my music.

To this day I meet people who tell me how painful it was to lose you even if they had never met you. You were such a positive influence to those around you and those that knew of you. You continue to inspire new generations of artists!

You did so much in such a short time! This year you would have been turning 40. I can only imagine what it would have been like to celebrate the fourth floor with you, rest well bro! We continue to celebrate you! #EsirForever #18yearsmemorial #16march2003 we lost a friend, a brother, a leader an amazing artist a KenyanIcon!”

According to Wahu, E-sir had an electric last performance before his death, “That fateful day through my eyes. March 15th 2003. Monski (Nameless) and E-sir were getting ready to go for a gig in Nakuru. It was a Saturday morning. The boys were very excited.

Shaddie had offered to drive and his friends Kevin and Santos who were lose that weekend and were excited to go. I remember saying goodbyes to the guys at the Mombasa Rd Oil Libya just as you turn into South C. That was the usual drop off/pick-up spot. It looked like they were going to have a lot of fun so I was feeling FOMO.

We said our goodbyes and the boys were off to Nakuru. As the story goes they killed it that night, big time. Monski was usually the one who performed last, but that particular night, he asked E-sir to do so. I hear it was faya! Too much fun! And E-sir who’s joy was always to watch others enjoying his music, had the time of his life.”
