IT WASN’T LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT COMEDIAN NJUGUSH NARRATES

Internet sensation Timothy Kimani popularly known as Njugush has narrated how he met with his wife, Celestine Ndinda, and later fell in love leading to marriage. Speaking in the recent episode of Cleaning The Airwaves (CTA), the funny man disclosed that he met Celestine in the drama club.

Interestingly, Njugush was pursuing Celestine’s friend, and on the other hand, Celestine was interested in Njugush’s friend but they ended up spending a lot of time together. “We met in KIMC in the drama club, I was in third year with no girlfriend and she liked me because of how I used to live and sleep on the floor and also for my jokes and because of that she became interested.

We started talking and later went to a drama workshop and she was still around. Other men would approach me and ask if she was dating and I would say no. I was pursuing her friend and she was interested in my friend but most of the time we are together,” said Njugush.

The comedian disclosed that they were close towards the end of his stay in campus and their relationship made his life easier because Celestine would help him with a number of things. “My last year in school we were together and she made my life easy. If I spent all my money, I knew there was someone who will sort me. She used to tell me ‘now that I have a meal card, stop eating outside the school and she would serve a lot of food so that we can share,” he remarked.

Njugush added that they were close to the point that Celestine would send him fare when he was stranded. His highlight at the time was when Celestine sent him Sh70 for fare, when he was stranded at Standard Group and needed transport back to his place.

By the time Njugush started working the two had started dating, Celestine played a big role in helping the comedian move into his new place. Njugush also recalled an instance where a bus conductor refused to give him his change after handing over Sh1000 forcing Celestine to intervene. “There’s a time Celestine got angry at a conductor. I had given the conductor Sh1000 note and he refused to return the change almost causing an altercation between Celestine and him,” he said.

The comic also discussed the roles he played on Hapa Kule News before the inception of The Real Househelps of Kawangware (TRHK). At Hapa Kule News, Njugush earned Sh60,000 per month. “After school, I landed a role at Hapa Kule News, and after some time Sh5,000 was added to my initial salary and every week I made Sh15,000,” he said.

Njugush landed a new role in Househelps of Kawangware and he was being paid Sh10,000 per episode. However, a few days later, a Twitter bigwig mocked Njugush and his team for coming up with the show idea, adding that at the time Lupita had just won the prestigious Oscar award. “When we started, a section of people rubbished the idea arguing that no one would watch a show with house helps. I remember one bigwig on Twitter said, ‘look at the one they want to be like Lupita and they are doing such shows, they will never be like her,” he recalled.

Months later, the internet was brought to a standstill after Lupita made a tweet about The Real Househelps of Kawangware show and a special shout-out to Njugush. “One day I woke up and got congratulations messages. I realized Lupita wrote a tweet saying, ‘watching Real Househelps of Kawangware, God bless Njuguna,” to date I still have the screenshot. That is where the name Blessed Njugush came from,” he explained.
