CAPITAL FM EMPLOYEES FRUSTRATED OVER MONTHS OF DELAYED SALARIES

By  |

Employees of Capital FM have voiced growing concerns over delayed salary payments and challenging work conditions. Speaking to Buzz Central, one of the employees revealed that the last salary payment they received was for July, which was only disbursed in September

The employee disclosed that for the past year, salary payments have been consistently delayed. “The last pay we received was for July, which was paid in September. For the past year, they have been paying us late.

The journalist expressed frustration over the lack of communication from management regarding the delays, leaving them in a state of uncertainty. Despite understanding that the business has faced difficulties, the employee feels the lack of clear communication is worsening the situation. “It is understandable that the business has suffered, but there is no communication from management,” the employee said.

The employees also raised concerns over a new directive requiring them to return to full-time work, which they say is unfeasible given the current circumstances. “They want us to go back to work full-time, which is not feasible. I’m not able to settle my bills on time and I can’t afford daily transport to Two Rivers.” another employee shared.  Adding, “I love the work that I do and want to do my best, but it is hard,” the member of staff explained.

Recently, the head of commercial of the station Brian Kipkogei wrote an email to the staff to apologise for the delayed salaries. In an internal email to the staff, Kipkogei acknowledged the financial difficulties the company is currently facing due to a downturn in market trends and a sharp decline in advertising revenues over recent months. “We would like to apologise for the delayed salaries. The staff salaries for September 2024 have fallen into arrears, on top of August also not yet being paid. We are faced with this situation because of challenging market trends, which have led to a dip in advertising revenues and low performance over the past few months,” Kipkogei explained in the email.

He further noted that the strain is being felt across all budgeted income areas, making it a difficult period for the company. Kipkogei assured staff that the management is actively working to resolve the situation by collecting outstanding dues and exploring alternative revenue streams. “This is a precarious position for the business, and management is doing all that is possible to collect on old dues owed to Capital FM, while at the same time pursuing other alternatives,” he stated.

Despite the ongoing financial challenges, he urged staff to remain focused on their work. “These are difficult times, but we humbly request staff not to be distracted from your work as indeed a significant number of jobs have been toiled over this month. We have had a better-than-usual start on October sales, and if we continue this way into the approaching festive period, it will ensure better times ahead. We are positive it is achievable.”

The head of commercial also promised to provide a further update within the week, assuring employees that management is working hard to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. “Please give us time. We will communicate within the week on how far we are on this,” he concluded.
