BEBE COOL TALKS ABOUT NEW ALBUM BREAK THE CHAINS
Legendary Ugandan musician Bebe Cool has revealed the inspiration behind his new album Break The Chains in an exclusive interview with Buzz Central’s Cheptoek Boyo. The musician critiqued the East African entertainment industry’s stagnation while announcing his creative manifesto for change.
When asked about the album’s title, he explained, “The inspiration comes from wanting to change the mindset of the people living in Africa, Uganda and all over the world. There’s been that aspect of people thinking that by doing things different, you’re heading for failure. There’s fear within people to change and try new journeys, new gardens of life.”
The artist didn’t shy away from addressing Uganda’s musical regression despite his own pioneering contributions. “I saw the Ugandan music industry go down every single day. I really I’m among the people who contributed to where industry was even better, but I have seen it move backwards because of one thing, us guys are still doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.“
He further added that complacency is the enemy of progress, “We got comfortable making some good money somewhere. With age comes experience, that’s when you make right decisions, when your voice is perfect, when you know how to navigate the industry. But we develop this mentality that ‘oh, now I’m done’ exactly when we should be beginning.”
The album title serves as a call against creative sabotage, “You take 20-30 years to build social capital, then the world tells you to retire. That’s the chain we must break. Let’s go!”
