PRESIDENT RUTO APPOINTS TRUPHENA MUTHONI AS AMBASSADOR
President William Ruto on Monday honoured environmentalist Truphena Muthoni in a meeting at State House, following her recent 72-hour tree-hugging feat in Nyeri County.
Muthoni successfully completed the endurance challenge in a bid to break the Guinness World Record for longest continuous tree hug, a record she previously set at 48 hours.
In a statement, President Ruto praised her act as “a deeply symbolic gesture aimed at raising national and global awareness on environmental conservation and climate change.”

He announced several recognitions for Muthoni, including her appointment as an ambassador for Kenya’s 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign. The President cited her “courage, fortitude, and laudable leadership” as motivation for the role.
Additionally, Muthoni was awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal for her service to environmental stewardship. She and her team have also been offered a fully sponsored holiday by the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Kenya Tourism Board.
To further support her advocacy, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry will facilitate a learning visit to Brazil, aimed at expanding her perspective on global conservation efforts.
On social media, President Ruto wrote: “Truphena Muthoni is an exemplary young Kenyan whose dedication and determination embody the very best of our nation’s spirit.”
