Renowned Ugandan comedian Kansiime Anne has confessed that she paid her own dowry in what she believed was a marriage only to later realise the relationship was built on a one-sided foundation.

In emotional revelation, Kansiime admitted that despite introducing herpartner to her parents, receiving a dowry quotation, and convincing herself, the world, and even the man himself that they were married, she was the one who footed the bill. “I have never become a wife,Kansiime confessed. “I actually paid my own dowry and convinced myself, the whole world, and the man himself that we were married.”

According to Kansiime, her partner came to her parents’ home and was duly informed of the dowry required. He never paid it. Rather than confront the painful reality, Kansiime took matters into her own hands. “I paid it myself,” she said. “And he never asked about it.”

The comedian revealed that the truth caught up with her when she turned 30, during a period when she was desperately trying to have a child.I really wanted a child so badly. It was quite a phase,” she shared. The turning point came after she returned from Nairobi, where she had been asked during an interview: “Where do you see yourself in five years?”

As she reflected on the question, Kansiime realised that the man she was with was not part of the future she envisioned. “He was not there in what I was seeing,” she said. She called him and told him she no longer wanted to be in that kind of marriage. He thought she was joking. “Truth comes to you on time,Kansiime reflected.
