Popular Kenyan food content creator Boina has made a bold move in response to the growing crisis of counterfeit alcohol in the country.

In a candid social media post, she unveiled a jerrican filled with traditional brew muratina, declaring it her go-to drink moving forward. “When you see me with this jar, I have decided to go back to my roots, the real muratina, because the fake alcohol being sold out here will kill us,” Boina said.

The foodie, known for celebrating Kenyan cuisine and beverages, talked about the dangers of illicit brew circulating in the market. Her frustration, shared by many Kenyans, stems from the alarming health risks posed by counterfeit alcoholic drinks, which have been linked to blindness, organ failure, and even death. “None of you guys care. You don’t want to know if I’ve survived by morning or I have a stomach ache. You just wake up and feel like you are in a different country,” she added.

Muratina is a traditional Kenyan alcoholic beverage, popular among the Agikiyu community.Because we can’t stop, let’s just go back to what we know,” she urged.
