‘I Believe in Marriage’ Naomi Kuria on Why She Won’t Watch ‘The Polygamist’
Digital creator Naomi Kuria has opened up about her conscious decision not to watch the popular series The Polygamist.
Speaking about her choice, Kuria explained that she is intentionally consumes content to safeguard her vision for her own future marriage. “As someone who believes in marriage 1,000% and someone who will get married, I have made a conscious decision to guard my heart when it comes to marriage. The information I perceive, the things I believe, anything that has to do with that area,” Kuria stated.
In an era where divorce, breakups and narratives that challenge traditional marriage are prevalent, Kuria acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining an optimistic outlook. However, she said that her choice is intentional. “I make sure that these divorce stories, these heartbreak stories, they don’t move me, even a notch,” she said. “I will get married, and my love life will be happy ever after, no matter what. That is one thing I tell myself every day when I wake up.”
Kuria described herself as “delusional” when it comes to love, explaining that this deliberate mindset helps her resist what she describes as societal programming that frames marriage negatively. “I create my world and live in it. I am so delusional when it comes to some things because I have to be. Anything that is happening out here, if you’re really not conscious enough, it is a system designed to program you to see things in a certain way which is really not it,” she explained.
She added, “That is why I am not participating in this series. It is corrupting what I believe in. It is corrupting what I want. It is literally not something I would want to participate in. So that is why I’m not watching the series but you guys can.”
While encouraging others to make their own viewing choices, Kuria remains firm in her decision to protect the narrative she holds for her own life. “I’m really, really sorry for people who have gone through that, because I actually don’t think there’s anyone who gets married to divorce unless I don’t know.“
