Zawadi Nyong’o Marks 4th Anniversary with Wife Rachel

Zawadi Nyong’o, daughter of Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o and sister to Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, is celebrating her fourth anniversary with her wife, Rachel.

In an Instagram post, Nyong’o dedicated a loving message to her partner, writing, “8/8/26 Happy 4 Year Anniversary Habibi! ❤️ I love you so much. Thank you for being my wife,  my ride or die, my bob, my best friend”. The anniversary comes nearly a year after Nyong’o publicly came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a revelation that garnered attention across Kenya.

Nyong’o’s public declaration of her identity occurred in October 2025, when she introduced her wife, Rachel, and their daughter, Amaya, to the world on Instagram. The initial post featured a family portrait with the caption, “I’m done hiding. #ThisIsUs #MiFamilia #lovewins🌈” . In a subsequent Instagram Story, she acknowledged the weight of the moment, stating, “I’ve been too afraid to do this for way too long! But this morning I woke up and said enough! This has been a loooong time coming!” .

The Nyong’o family has shown support for Zawadi and her family. A separate photo shared publicly shows Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o spending time with his daughter and her wife, Rachel, indicating a strong family bond . Zawadi’s brother, Peter Nyong’o Jr., also publicly expressed his support following her coming out in 2025, commenting on her post, “My family” .
