Kaz Opens Up About Divorcing Partner Majic After One Year of Separation
Musician Karen Lucas, popularly known as Kaz, has opened up about her ongoing divorce with partner Majic Dyke, describing the experience as “the ghetto”.
In a vulnerable appearance on the Legally Clueless podcast hosted by Adelle Onyango, Lucas shared intimate details about navigating the end of her marriage after a year of separation. The conversation touched on the sense of loss that often accompanies divorce, a topic she feels is frequently overlooked.
“Now I’m going through a divorce, it’s just been a year of separation, it’s been the ghetto,” Lucas stated during the episode.

“Then there is the big element of grief that people don’t talk about when it comes to divorce, grieving an entire life that you were sure it was going to happen. Now you have to create a new path.”
The 2021 TED Fellow revealed that her approach to healing involves confronting pain directly rather than avoiding it. “I allow myself to feel the pain, I’m not numbing myself with substances, no alcohol. I gain strength from planting,” she shared.
Lucas, whose work through The Spread Podcast has championed sexuality and consent education in Kenya, also addressed the concept of loneliness within relationships. “Since my separation is by far a much better lonely than being lonely within a relationship,” she explained. “I am very proud of the life that I have built for myself and the person I have become. I have learned that by validating every emotion that comes, I stay in it for a shorter time than in the past with my depression. The only way out is through.”
In December 2024, Kaz and Majic market their 2nd wedding anniversary. “It’s been 2 years since we tied the knot. Happy anniversary, my sweet love. My heart, my everything. So many ups and downs that we have lived to tell the tale. I am so grateful for you and even more grateful that you chose me and continue to choose me to spend this beautiful yet hectic life with. You have made my life worth living through every second. Thank you for being such an influential trajectory in my life. I love you now and for always. Happy Anniversary.”
