Mama Ida Odinga Endorses Son Raila Junior for Kibra Seat
Mama Ida Odinga has publicly thrown her weight behind her son, Raila Odinga Junior, as a candidate for the Kibra parliamentary seat, issuing a call for local leaders and residents to take him under their wing and steer him toward responsible politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The endorsement came during Mama Ida’s 76th birthday celebrations, where Raila Junior was in attendance. Addressing the gathering, she talked about Raila Junior following in the footsteps of his father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking to Kibra’s leaders and residents, Mama Ida entrusted her son to their care. “The people of Kibra have approached me with their request. If this is your decision, I will not stand in the way. However, I place my son in your hands, first to the leaders of Kibra, and to all of you present here today. I give you my child. Nurture him, guide him, and remind him of the values he must uphold,” she said.
She noted that many of the leaders present had begun their political journeys alongside Raila Odinga as far back as 1992, and urged them to pass on their wisdom and experience to the younger generation.
Mama Ida also offered counsel to her son, encouraging him to pursue a campaign rooted in integrity and constructive dialogue. “Run a clean race, free from insults, disorder, or intimidation. Let your campaign be built on integrity. Win people over with your words and your vision, and show them what you can deliver,” she advised.
