Abel Mutua Opens Up on Daughter’s Ksh 1.5 Million School Fees

Renowned Kenyan actor and filmmaker Abel Mutua has revealed the staggering cost of educating his teenage daughter, Stephanie Mumbua, popularly known as Mumbus, disclosing that Year 11 school fees stand at a whopping Ksh 1.5 million.

Speaking in a recent interview, Mutua explained that his daughter is enrolled in the British Cambridge curriculum following her switch from Kenya’s CBC system in early 2024. “I saw that structure last term. I almost screamed ,” Mutua said of the fee structure. 

The conversation then shifted to the couple’s decision not to expand their family beyond their only child. “No more, unfortunately. School is expensive. We looked at the life we want her to have and we did the calculation. Kids are expensive,” he stated .

Mutua further detailed the financial demands of the British system, particularly during examination years. “Then there is exam year, Year 11 and Year 13. You have to put Sh1.5 million aside,” he explained.

The couple, who welcomed Mumbus in 2010 when Abel was 24 and Judy was 23, have long maintained that they are content with one child. Judy has also been vocal about her decision, stating that “that chapter is completely closed,” and that no amount of money would change her mind .
