Nikita Kering Marks 6-Year Battle with PCOS

Award-winning Kenyan singer and songwriter Nikita Kering has opened up about her six-year journey living with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

The musician took to social media to mark the anniversary of her diagnosis, writing, “It’s now been 6 years with PCOS. So proud of myself and all the strong Endometriosis & PCOS girlies out there! Living with something people can’t always see takes a lot of strength. I hope you all get the care, support and understanding you deserve.” 

Her message, posted during PCOS Awareness Month observed every September, PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects an estimated 6 to 13 percent of women of reproductive age worldwide, with up to 70 percent of those affected remaining undiagnosed. The condition can cause irregular or absent menstrual periods, acne, weight gain, excessive hair growth, and infertility, and has been linked to higher rates of mental health disorders including depression and anxiety .
