President Uhuru Kenyatta’s niece Nana Gecaga has opened up on her life challenges.

Speaking to Pinky Ghelani on Pinky TV the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, CEO, talked about hitting rock bottom because of alcoholism. “It started off as being social, I became the life of the party the party turned into one.

My day would start at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, I would crawl to my fridge and have a beer, then drink another one, go to the shower then have another, get ready, have another and of course I was 21 in the land of the free so I would go to the bar and continue to drink.

In Massachusetts you drink up to 1am by that time I was out of it. But I had made sure my lifestyle was catered for, I used to tip the campus security and he would come and get me and make sure I’m back in the dorm.”

After many family intervention Nana decided she wanted to go to rehab, “One day it all caught up to me, my family had tried, every time at a family faction they were damn! I hope she behaves.

I remember one time I was on the plane downing drink. When I arrived here, my dad had to come to the baggage carousel because I was the only one left there just watching my bags going round and round, while the whole flight had left.

It got to a point where I wanted better for myself and with the help of my sister, my brother and my mom and dad, I went to the rehab center for a month and here I am today.”

The mother of three who is also former deejay confessed she kicked out her baby daddy, “I have stayed in a relationship just because, but a very young age I said I have been here and I have seen people stay in relationships just because of the children. Kenya wasn’t even born when I walked out, well threw him out but whatever.”

She also spoke about her parents separating when she was three years, “Every family has it, their own family issues, I am a product of divorce, at a very young age my parents got divorced when I was three. For me personally its nothing to do with my parents, my issue was maybe I’m not good enough and of course it beats you down.”
