MERCY MASIKA TALKS ABOUT SCANDALS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

By  |

Popular gospel musician Mercy Masika has weighed in on the scandals in Kenya’s music industry. Speaking in a recent interview, the singer termed it a spirit of age where most people are involved in scandals to remain relevant.

It’s a spirit of the age that people want attention, they are desperate for attention in whatever way. There are people who want to be famous because they think being famous and making noise everywhere makes you relevant but they make you a noisemaker,” Masika said.

She also explained how she had successfully managed to say away from scandals, explaining that she is after pleasing God which gives her satisfaction. “For me I’m not after being famous, I’m after pleasing God. Of course there are advantages that you get when you are famous and they are good but it becomes empty when it is about you. When you begin to be about it, being a blessing to others and just serving God it totally gives you satisfaction,” Masika disclosed.

She also warned people from being influenced by gospel musicians or people preaching the word, insisting on reading and understanding the scripture by oneself. “If you’re following a man he is going to disappoint you but if you follow God and push with everything, not to be the person who just follows men but follows God and whatever that they are teaching you be through to check what they are telling you if it’s the truth,” she said.

On being a minister of the word of God, she said, “I’m yet to have the calling, at the moment I serve God in whatever capacity, if I’m able to teach I want to teach more I feel good when I teach people and lots of reach out.
