‘I’M NOT ADDICTED TO WEED’ BENSOUL SPEAKS ON HIS PLANS TO DEVELOP KENYAN CANNABIS STRAIN
Popular musician Bensoul has revealed ambitious plans to develop a world-class Kenyan cannabis strain, positioning himself at the forefront of what he believes could be a lucrative agricultural and economic opportunity for the country.
Speaking candidly on the Buzz Central Podcast with Cheptoek Boyo, the musician turned cannabis advocate shared his vision for Kenya’s potential in the global weed market.
Bensoul opened up about on the amount of rolls he smokes per day, “I lost count of how many rolls I smoke daily, I measure it by how often I drink water. Every time I take water, I have a smoke. I’m not addicted, but I love it. It keeps me zen.“
However, he was quick to caution, “Weed isn’t for everybody. I’ve seen someone almost lose it, it affects minds differently. Those it works for, continue. Those who can’t handle it, shouldn’t take it.“
The musician didn’t hold back in his appeal to policymakers: “We’ve tried telling President Ruto it’s the ‘holy herb,’ but he ignores the ‘holy’ part. Kenya is late to legalization while Uganda licenses and exports it, making millions. We’re consuming Ugandan weed instead of growing our own, that’s a market we’ve handed to another country.”
The Extra Pressure hitmaker has already taken steps toward his cannabis ambitions, visiting farms in South Africa and Amsterdam’s coffee shops to study premium strains. “The goal is to develop amazing Kenyan strains that can compete internationally. When legalisation happens, I’ll be ready to sell,” he declared.
Not waiting for policy changes, Bensoul has launched 4:20-themed merchandise, including grinders, rolling papers, ash trays, and apparel a move that champions his commitment to normalising cannabis culture in Kenya.
