An activist who completed a gruelling three-day walk from Eldoret to Nairobi to raise awareness for HIV testing was left stranded and exhausted upon arrival, until the intervention from Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria.

A video shared by Mosiria on his social media platforms shows the official encountering the young man, who was visibly exhausted and could barely stand. The activist, who carried a banner reading “Eldoret to Nairobi HIV/AIDS Awareness Walk,” detailed his 367-kilometer journey, which began on Sunday, February 1.

I was assigned an ambulance which accompanied me for about seven kilometres, then left, and I was even flagged off by the county government,” the activist explained in the video.

His initiative, which he stated was endorsed and officially flagged off by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii alias Koti Moji, aimed to promote HIV testing awareness. However, upon reaching Nairobi, he found no officials or representatives from the Ministry of Health present to receive him. “He walked with hopes of being received by leaders to support his initiative,” Mosiria said.

The situation worsened when the team that had accompanied him allegedly took the remaining funds, forcing the activist to spend a night on the streets. He was later connected to Mosiria through concerned well-wishers. Mosiria, who heads the county’s customer care department, has launched an online fundraiser to facilitate the activist’s safe return to Eldoret, urging the public to contribute and support the cause.
